Can the two legends just fight already?

Every boxing and MMA fan has heard, read and seen comments, reviews and news on the potential Mayweather vs. McGregor fight for almost a year now. While it is getting terribly topsy-turvy, the date and venue are yet to be decided. Ray of hope? This tweet:

This fight is taking forever to finalize and while this reporter, who happens to be a business partner of David Nino Rodriguez, a former heavyweight, who is buddies with Mayweather. But is it an official confirmation? No one knows. This entire fight is cooked on the rumor mill and it has been said so many times that everyone started believing it. Later came sparring videos of McGregor, the heart-warming fan made trailers of the fight, Mayweather coming back from retirement and Mayweather’s uncle confirming that Mayweather has started sparring again.

‘All I know is Floyd’s training so, he’s getting ready for something… He’s working and he’s working consistently and, normally he wouldn’t do that unless he’s getting ready for something.’

– Jeff Mayweather

Coming back to the technicalities, Mayweather has withdrawn the targeted 26th August date from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Everyone thought the fireworks are near but no. let the legends deal with how to put the fans in a state of uncertainty and anticipation.

The date was retracted hours after it was announced that Mayweather Promotions are planning to formally request the Nevada State Athletic Commission for the 26th of August date but later LA Times revealed that the request was retracted and the NSAC executive director Bob Bennet said that there are things yet to discuss on a meeting that will happen on 14th of June.

Again, we are shoved in the sea of uncertainty like before. This ship isn’t seeing the land anytime soon, but the good thing is that at least they have both signed. It is very likely that they announce the fight as soon as this fall, or as later as next year in summers. Who knows, besides, Dana White has reportedly interacted in these ‘talks’ and that means UFC is involved as well.

Keep in mind that all these factors favor the upcoming fight that the Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya is promoting, set to take place on 16 September between Gennady Golovkin vs. Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. What are we looking at?

We might see a fight date struck down from boxing heaven soon enough, whether or not it shadows the Alvarez vs. Golovkin fight, we can’t say yet but if pundits claim this fight bigger than Pacquiao vs Mayweather we may as well just see the biggest Combat Sports rivalry in history. We at RDX Sports are ALL for it.

Let’s pray this happens soon. Maybe we can get Moody to predict a date.

Stay tuned for updates!
