Michael Bisping Will Undergo Surgery before Defending His Title against Yoel Romero
UFC Middleweight Champ, Michael Bisping, revealed on Thursday that his return to the Octagon and title defense could be slightly delayed due to minor surgery, therefore he could be out until May. It is expected that “The Count” will go under the knife in the next couple of weeks.
Bisping said: “I actually found out just recently I’ve got to have a knee surgery. Nothing major, just a cleanup. I’ve got a slightly torn meniscus, a couple other things going on in there so I’ve got to get that knee surgery taken care of. We scheduled that and I should be having that in the next couple of weeks. Get that taken care of and I’ll probably be defending the belt around May, something like that I would guess.”
The 37-year-old legend who has given more than 20-years (an odd two decades) to mixed martial arts, and years of punishment and grinding is bound to take a toll on your body, so a slightly torn meniscus is not all that bad.
Bisping became the undisputed champion when he knocked Luke Rockhold out, stiff on UFC 199, with less than 2 weeks for preparation, while shooting xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.. After that he was able to defend his title in a fight that could have gone either way against UFC legend Dan Henderson in Bisping’s home town Manchester, England. Michael was able to survive multiple H-bombs via Hendo’s patented right hand in the early rounds but came back stronger in the later rounds to secure his first title defense and avenge a loss to Henderson, prior in his career.
These days the Champ is busy promoting his Hollywood blockbuster action packed film “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” starring Vin Diesel, Samuel L Jackson, and Deepika Padukone.
It is expected when the Englishman has fully recovered, he will face Yoel Romero, the No. 1 ranked contender for his middleweight title. However, there is no official announcement by the UFC on this matter.
