Last weekend, the co-main event of UFC Fortaleza witnessed Jose Aldo pick up a second-round standing TKO finish of fellow Brazilian Renato Moicano. This was one of the toughest fights of Moicano’s impressive career. Jose Aldo swarmed his opponent with a series of strikes before referee Jerin Valel intervened.
While Renato Moicano didn’t seem to be much impressed with the referee’s decision to stop the fight and believed he was ready to head back to the drawing board. Moicano said,
“I came here to say I’m alright, the fight was stopped by technical knockout, but in my opinion the referee stopped it a bit early. But it’s okay, life goes on. ”
“I was doing well, I think I won the first round and came back more active in the second round. I don’t remember the strike, I didn’t see the strike that started that explosion, and I think the referee stopped it a bit early.”
On the other hand Jose Aldo has great admiration for his opponent which he expressed in the post-fight presser too. He hopes Moicano becomes a champion in the future.
Aldo said,
“We need the new generation. We need new athletes in my division, too. I always dreamed of having a total domination of Brazil in the division and I lost that so I want to give him the strength for that. So now it is in the past and I hope that he keeps going.”
“He’s got his talent and he’s got his skills and he’s got a great future ahead of him. He needs to believe in his team and hopefully he can fight for the title one day and become the champion.”
Anybody who saw that match knows that Aldo’s uppercut wobbled
Renato Moicano might not have been unconscious, but successfully. If Valel had not stepped in for the stoppage, it was only a matter of time before Renato would’ve hit the floor.
