UFC President Dana White has announced that if Tony Ferguson is ready, he will face the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Dustin Poirier.

The highly anticipated main event at UFC 242 will feature ‘The Eagle’ (Nurmagomedov) to clash against ‘The Diamond’ (Poirier). Ferguson on the other hand, has been within reach for UFC Gold but circumstances prevented him from competing. In interviews, both Nurmagomedov and Poirier have stated that Ferguson should get the next title shot. This is an invitation for White to set up the match with Ferguson versus the winner. Both fighters have recognized Ferguson’s potential after he secured 12 consecutive wins including big fights.

White stated in an interview “If Tony Ferguson is ready. If Tony’s ready, then yea (he’s next)”. Due to personal issues, Ferguson has been unable to fight after a knee injury. Despite securing the interim champion title, UFC did not allow the fighter to keep his belt. Instead, UFC stripped his title and declared Nurmagomedov as the undisputed champion. Even after the injuries, Ferguson again secured impressive victories against Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone. There is still a possibility of Conor McGregor facing off against Ferguson for the title. As a response to this, White stated “Its all going to depend on his hand and how fast it recovers”.
