The question regarding Adonis Stevenson’s ability was that he had not faced the most able boxer in his previous 8 successful attempts in defending his title. On Saturday night, gossips regarding Superman’s (29-1-1) ability to fight for his much-deserved title were not completely hushed as he only managed a majority draw against Badou Jack (22-1-3) at Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
Gameplay
The initial part of the game saw Stevenson in his best form as he continued with his dominance throughout the first half, scoring a win. However, he got himself punched giving Jack a much-needed opportunity to show his form. From seventh round onwards Jack took the reins of the fight.
“Superman” made a comeback in the 10th round by landing a callous body shot that landed Jack on the ropes and kept him for the most part there for the 11th round.
But “The Ripper” was not ready to give in. He gathered all his strength and gave everything in the fight during the 12th round, as he put up an impressive show in the last 30 seconds. He continued administering punishment until the final call to close the brawl.
The draw will lead to a rematch between Stevenson and Jack where “Superman” has yet to prove his ability.
Had Jack been more brutal in the opening rounds, the draw would be definite win for him putting an end to Adonis Stevenson’s legacy. The fight scored a majority draw (114-114, 114-114, and 115-113) for Jack as Stevenson went on to retain his title.
