Anthony Joshua (17-0, 17 KOs) delivered what was widely expected of him, a crushing victory over the undefeated American challenger Breazeale (17-1, 15 KOs). Joshua dominated from start to finish and clinically dismantled his opponent brick by brick. After taking such a heavy punishment it was a matter of time before Breazeale would go down on the canvas. It took Joshua seven rounds of non-stop beating to cause the referee to stop the fight in favor of the 26-year-old Champ.
Most people expected the young champion to knockout the 30-year-old inside three rounds, however they were surprised by the steel shinned Breazeale who took some of the best shots Joshua had to offer but resisted against going down easy.
The Olympic gold medalist now plans to take much deserved rest and will be back in September to face possibly the mandatory IBF title challenger Joseph Parker.
However, nothing is confirmed as yet and Joshua’s camp is ready to face the best in the world right now including names such as Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury, and David Haye are all on AJ hit-list.
For now he is planning to go to Rio Olympics in support of the 12-man Great Britain team. “I’ve got a good relationship with the boys,” he said. “I’ve known them for years. It will be good to speak with them first-hand, behind closed doors. But the main thing is I want to catch up with my family, spend some nights at home.”
After that the Champ will return to training and focus on his next opponent. Joshua and Eddie Hearn have set their eyes on title unification and fights with Tyson Fury (WBA, WBO, IBO) and Wilder (WBC) is his no.1 priority.
With big wins over Charles Martin and now Breazeale, every boxer wants to face the Champ.
“There’s not a heavyweight in the world who doesn’t want to fight Anthony Joshua – because Charles Martin has obviously told them there’s a few quid on the table. We like the Joseph Parker fight. That’s a mandatory. We’ll have to deal with that at some point, whether that’s in November, December or March or April. That’s a good fight against a hungry, undefeated fighter.” Hearn said.
Joshua has got the qualities of a true champion, he carried himself well and wants to face anyone who challenges him. If he keeps improving like he’s been doing and performs in the ring the way he did against Breazeale, he will go on to dominate the heavyweight division for as long as he wants.
