Nicknamed Canelo, he is the first and only boxer in the history of boxing to become undisputed champion at Super Middleweight as he held the WBA Super title, WBC and Ring Magazine titles since 2020. And later he added the IBF and WBO titles on his waist too in the year 2021. How cool is that right?

Canelo Álvarez Diet Plan

Boxers like Alvarez don’t just become the best in the world by luck. They put in the time and effort to work hard with dedication to achieve the elite level of skills needed to be on the top. A big part of any athlete’s preparation for the fight is the diet plan he or she follows. One has to be very careful about the calories consumption and ways to manage weight in order to switch between the different weight classes. 

Meal -1 Breakfast

Alvarez starts off his breakfast with egg whites fried in olive oil. With a glass of fresh fruit juice, he eats a piece of ham. 

Meal -2 Lunch

For lunch, Alvarez eats a piece of smoked or grilled chicken along with a few vegetables like carrots and broccoli. 

Meal – 3 Snacks

Alvarez consumes fruits and vegetables when he craves for a snack. These fruits and veggies include apples, grapes, jicama and carrots. 

Meal – 4 Dinner

Alvarez has the simplest dinner menu. He only takes a glass of protein shake to end his day. 

The lack of dinner will unnerve some boxers and they may think that this diet isn’t enough to fuel their workouts. But that is how Canelo Alvarez does it.

Canelo’s Cheat Day Diet

On cheat days, Canelo likes to eat sushi and tacos.

Fight Oriented Training Routine

Canelo trains six days a week during a fight camp. He only rests on Sundays and undergoes two sessions per day. He then goes for a morning run around 6 am and after consuming breakfast, takes a small power nap to rest for his afternoon training session. 

Monday, Wednesday And Friday Canelo Exercises 

These three days of a week are reserved for boxing training. Canelo performs different exercises during his fight training and comes up with game plans to enhance his strategy. Some of these exercises are: 

  • Jump ropes
  • Shadow Boxing exercises
  • The heavy bag workout 
  • Strategic exercises

Tuesday, Thursday And Saturday Workout Plan

Canelo’s Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays are reserved for sparring sessions. He along with his coach and trainer focus on pure fight training where he visualizes himself in the ring and prepares for the upcoming D-Day. Canelo when interviewed about his sparring sessions, said: 

  “It’s the hardest thing I do and it’s what fascinates me the most”

Strength And Conditioning Workout

Canelo prefers incorporating a little bit of everything into his training routine for his strength workout. He combines bodyweight and weight training exercises to give himself the strength and conditioning that is needed for a champ.
