News has come forward via twitter (@BoxingKingdom14) that former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor is likely in negotiations to fight former boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi.

“Credible Source: Negotiations on-going between Conor McGregor & Paulie Malignaggi. (Boxing)”

That report was echoed by mixed martial arts insider @TalkMMA who took to social media with the following information.

Both fighters share an extremely bitter history that goes back to the time. Malignaggi once served as a training partner for Conor McGregor ahead of his boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather. McGregor ultimately lost the bout.

Soon after, “Magic Man” Malignaggi left the Irish star’s training camp, and pictures showing Conor getting the better of Paulie Malginaggi in a sparring session, were aired.

After some time, a short video was shared that showed “Mystic Mac” dropping Malignaggi with a punch during the same sparring session.

Malignaggi was not happy about the video footage or the photos being released to the public. He challenged McGregor to post the entire sparring session so that the world could see “what really happened”.

After all this, both have been at each other’s throat in public and social encounters. Following McGregor’s fourth-round submission loss to current undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, Paulie took to Twitter to mock his former training partner.

McGregor is not a man who is known to leave things half done. His fans may be about to get him in the boxing ring for a huge super-fight against a man who was once his training partner and a good friend. The relationship between the two has since soured, and they could be facing each other in a fight for the ages.

This is McGregor’s opportunity to silence the majority of his critics. A win here would allow the UFC star to bounce back after back-to-back losses to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Floyd Mayweather.
