Conor McGregor’s “retirement” from mixed martial arts may be over already. McGregor said in a post on Twitter, “… see you in the Octagon”. Apparently, Conor McGregor wasn’t serious about retirement as he reveals plans to return to the Octagon just a week after hanging up his gloves.
After making some controversial posts yesterday the Irishman issued a form of apology and hinted his return in today’s tweet.
McGregor wrote,
“I want to move forward, with my fans of all faiths and all backgrounds,
“All faiths challenge us to be our best selves. It is one world and one for all.
“Now see you in the Octagon.”
Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov were involved in a war of words on Twitter. There was also an exchange of rude social media posts between the two. McGregor also tweeted – then deleted – a derogatory tweet aimed at Nurmagomedov’s wife. Many called the tweet inexcusable.
Meanwhile Dana White released a statement saying that the online exchanges were unacceptable. Further, he reached out to both camps to repair relations and calm the situation.
“I am aware of the recent social media exchange between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor, the ongoing situation has escalated to a level that is not acceptable. As such, we are taking the necessary steps to reach out to both athlete camps, and this situation is being addressed by all parties internally.”
Soon after, Conor McGregor tweeted that he hoped to settle his differences with Nurmagomedov in the Octagon.
Both fighters last met in the main event of UFC 229 where Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor by neck crank. Soon after, the two had a fight that lead to bans and fines on the lightweight rivals. At the moment, McGregor is serving a six month ban for his part in the brawl. The NSAC also fined McGregor $50,000.
Meanwhile, Nurmagomedov is serving a ban of one year, in addition to a fine of $1 million.
Neither McGregor nor Nurmagomedov have had another fight since then.
However, the animosity between the two has since increased.
McGregor has also started up again with boxer Paulie Malignaggi. Malignaggi has already signed up to compete in the BKFC and challenged McGregor to face him in the format.
