Though there is no one else other than Conor McGregor that Khabib Nurmagomedov is looking to target right now, the Dagestani Eagle has shown interest in facing off Georges St-Pierre after taking down his most bitter rival.
The reigning lightweight champion said that he had immense respect for the Canadian artist. St-Pierre held the welterweight and middleweight title in the past, only to relinquish both his belts later on. The fighter has previously explained that bulking for welterweight category caused him some stomach issues, owning to which he had to scrap of his gold. The former two-division champ has said that it is highly probable that he manages his weight at 155 pounds, which could open his door to enter into another lightweight division.
Right now, Nurmagomedov is occupied with the worry of defending his belt against his long-standing rival Conor McGregor. However, the Russian Eagle has expressed his interest in fighting against the “Rush.” The undefeated champ expressed that he would feel honored to lock horns with St-Pierre. Nurmagomedov thinks that the encounter would be lethal, just like other fights. But he is ready execute maximum punishment once the cage closes.
While talking to the media this is what Nurmagomedov had to say:
“Georges is greatest competitor in the UFC of all time. Even if we fight, I think it’s going to be a very tough matchup for me, and for him too. I never lose round in the UFC. I think I can give him very tough match. I know you guys love him, but when cage door close I have to smash my opponents.”
While Khabib’s upcoming fight against McGregor is gathering a lot of media attention, what the future holds for Georges St-Pierre still remains questionable. The Canadian artist has not made an appearance in the octagon since his last victory against Michael Bisping for middleweight title in UFC 217. Despite earning himself a submission victory, he wasn’t able to retain the gold, as he had to face off some health issues.
Since then the fighter has worked on maintaining his weight and is eager to make his entry in 155-pound division. If his fight with Khabib vs. McGregor winner materializes, the fight could inch him close to the possibility of winning a belt from third division. However, right now Dana White disapproves the idea of St-Pierre fighting against Khabib vs. McGregor winner.
Whether Khabib and St-Pierre get a chance to collide is yet to be seen; however, the Russian Eagle is quite confident of his skill. This is what the fighter had to say:
“In my mind I think nobody can beat me.”
