Are we there yet?
The anticipation of Mayweather and McGregor fight is either getting to rip the internet apart or everyone will start talking about something else. This gossip and bantering have been up and about for a long time now and we have been witnessing comments and predictions from literally everyone in the world who cares about MMA and Boxing.
This time, we have a clear statement from ‘Money’ Mayweather that if he DOES come back from his retirement, he wants McGregor and no one else.
Social media is filled with posts, tweets and photos against and for McGregor vs. Mayweather fight and McGregor has even started posting videos of him boxing as he is preparing for a grand battle.
Now, Mayweather has given an interview in which he clearly states that he wants UFC Champion on a plate.
“I’m here to say today, 2-24 on my birthday, they keep throwing the Conor McGregor name out there. Conor McGregor, like I said before, I’m here let’s make it happen, let’s make the fight happen. Let’s give the fans what they want to see. There’s only one fight out there that’s important and that’s Mayweather and Conor McGregor.”
But just yesterday, UFC president Dana White gave a short interview to TMZ and he doesn’t seem too happy about it. He wants McGregor to fight the winner of UFC 209. He said:
“I don’t know where we’re at, we’re nowhere. We’re nowhere with it. I expect Conor’s next fight to be in the UFC, in mixed martial arts and the winner of Khabib (Nurmagomedov) vs. (Tony) Ferguson.”
This is completely expected from the promoter of UFC, as he expects that Conor’s next fight will take place in the UFC, not against Mayweather. Not only that, the rules and legitimacy of the fight are still unclear. And, McGregor is under exclusive contract with UFC and they will have to sign off on the approval which would either allow him to fight this crossover fight or not. MMA experts suggest that they would since this fight will break all records of pay-per-view so far. Not to mention the biggest payday for both fighters.
“Once Conor McGregor speaks with the UFC and his bosses, and then we can make it happen. Because we already know that Floyd Mayweather is his own boss. We’ve got Showtime (pay-per-view), Mayweather Promotions, which is the past and present and the future of sports and entertainment.”
According to the fans and sports fanatics, this fight will bring a lot of money and attention to the entity of ‘Crossover fights’ and will open the gateway for many more fights to come.
