The bout would be lightweight affair illuminating up Madison Square Garden in New York.
However, UFC hasn’t issued any statement. It is expected that UFC would officially declare the fight date today (Friday) at its quarterly press conference in “City of Angels.” UFC 227 is going to be held in the same venue the next day.
33-year-old American fighter made his last appearance in the cage on in August 2016 as part of UFC 202. He squared off ferociously with Conor McGregor; however his counterpart rival sealed the deal via majority decision. The Californian after embracing his defeat stayed away from MMA’s realm, but has recently showed his interest in making a comeback.
While Diaz was away regaining his lost strength, Poirier got to work to engrave his name in the pro league of MMA. The Diamond has managed three back-to-back TKO’s and is all revved up to his most lethal appearance in UFC this Saturday.
Poirier’s match with Eddie Alvarez had captured both media and fans attention alike, as he exhibited his dominance in the octagon as he trampled upon former lightweight champion, taking over his accolade. The Diamond extended devastating knee strikes and punches putting an end to Alvarez.
Before his win over Alvarez, Poirier had proved his mettle by sealing a win with a 4-round TKO against Justin Gaethje.
