UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has announced that the fighter will not fight as a title holder for long.

At 30 years old, the relatively young fighter has already won the lightweight title and has defended it so far. With his UFC goal achieved, the MMA contender may decide to enjoy his earnings. The fighter also stated previously in an interview that he will not stick around in UFC until the age of 40. In a recent interview about his retirement he stated, “Not yet, I’ve already been champion, but I don’t want to fight when I’m 40 years old”. He elaborated that he is currently talking to all his team, his coach and family to make the decision.

Nurmagomedov is set to face off against Dustin Poirier in Abu Dhabi UFC 242. The fighter has yet to clarify his plans in the case of losing. He stated in the UFC 242 conference call that “But right now, I’m focused on competition, because I have too much fire inside me”. The fighter has yet to state his exact plans after defending the title against Poirier. He also explained that there are insufficient fighters currently in UFC that can match his level. After being a title holder for this long, Nurmagomedov has announced that he may retire several fights.
