Right after Henry Cejudo made the tables turn in his favour in his bout against Demetrious Johnson by stripping away his flyweight belt in UFC 227, he was quick to call out to TJ Dillashaw to engage in a hair-raising encounter on bantamweight’s canvas. Dillashaw dispatched grace to his long-time adversary and former teammate Cody Garbrandt in UFC 227 main card fight the same night Cejudo embraced flyweight victory. Cejudo explained that he was willing to lock horns with bantamweight title holder in an attempt to notch up a division and hold belt up accolades from two divisions.
At that time, TJ Dillashaw didn’t respond to Cejudo with the same enthusiasm as The Messenger had challenged him. Interestingly, recently Dillashaw has been showing keen interest in a matchup against Cejudo; however, under conditions that the Messenger didn’t anticipate.
While talking about his future endeavors on The Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show, bantamweight gold holder said that he was looking to face off Cejudo by cutting down his weight and moving to the flyweight division. The Viper considers it the perfect opportunity not only because it can inch him closer to a title from another division but also because Cejudo holds Olympic gold for wrestling, making him the candidate at par with his caliber.
Killashaw said,
“The Henry Cejudo thing entertains me so much because he’s a gold medalist. He wants to claim himself as the greatest combat athlete ever. ‘I’m a UFC champion, I’m a gold medalist!’ I’ll go out there and beat you in wrestling. MMA wrestling is completely different. I’m the better athlete. I can beat him anywhere, I know I can, watching him fight. That’s why I’m very excited about it. I think it’s the greatest thing for my name right now.”
32-year-old American reiterated that despite he is quite interested in any such possibility, there are no signs of fight being official. The fighter went on to add that he could feel UFC eyeing the potential of the fight and may give it some serious thought.
“There’s been nothing serious but there’s been hints and we did our media tour together and they put us on camera together and had us talk shit to each other. They didn’t say that because everything is real but it’s like, ‘Oh shit, this is what you guys want! Okay, you really think you can beat me? Then fuck you man, let’s do this shit!’”
The Viper was clear that if the fight would realize, it would happen for flyweight division, not on bantamweight canvas. He said there was no other way around.
The bantamweight champion said,
“[At] 125, absolutely. I don’t want no excuses that I’m the bigger man.”
