Tyson Fury has declared that he’s interested in fighting whoever wins the Andy Ruiz Jr vs Anthony Joshua bout, in case Deontay Wilder can’t make it to the ring on February 22.
The expected face-off between the ‘Gypsy King’ and ‘Bronze Bomber’ is already set for early next year, but to get there the American will once again have to face Luis Ortiz on November 23.
While Wilder is expected to repeat his 2018 KO of the Cuban, anything and everything is possible in heavyweight boxing.
When probed about his backup plan incase his chosen opponent fails to show up, Fury responded, “When one door closes another one opens.
“So if he loses, he loses. He’ll have a rematch with Ortiz no doubt.
“And I’ll look for the winner of Andy Ruiz Jr vs Anthony Joshua on the same date.”
Whatever happens on December 7 could well be career defining for Joshua. As of Fury, he is adamant about meeting his British rival if he succeeds in conquering the Mexican.
“I have three fights left on my contract. Deontay Wilder is next and if Wilder wants it again, he can. Then I will fight the winner of Joshua and Ruiz Jr for sure.”
