Amir Khan is more determined than ever to get the world’s top boxing superstar, Floyd Mayweather, in the ring. The Bolton welterweight is gleaming with confidence after his recent victory against Devon Alexander; and has now given the American fighter a week to agree to a 2015 battle.
In his most recent statement, Khan has said:
‘I want to fight in May and I want the Mayweather fight but it’s not getting any closer.’
He has made his concerns clear after stating:
‘I’ve answered all the things Mayweather wanted me to do. He wanted me to fight at welterweight, I did that; he wanted to do a vote [to see who he would fight], I won the vote; he wanted me to beat a top guy in the division and I gave Devon Alexander a beating he’d never had before.
Rumour has it that Manny Pacquiao is also desperate to get into the ring with Mayweather, but if he turns him down, Amir Khan could get his chance.
According to critics, Khan has been bold enough to take big risks with his previous fights, which is why he feels ready to take on Floyd Mayweather and has openly challenged him, many times.
Amir Khan gave a statement regarding this:
“One thing about me is I’ve fought guys at their peak and who have been dangerous. I didn’t have to fight them but I did. Losing doesn’t make you a bad fighter, losing shows how good you are if you come back from those losses.”
Khan wants this fight in May. His religious commitments mean that he will be fasting over the summer and therefore can’t train to his full potential. Rumors are churning that the highly anticipated fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao will finally be happening this year. If it goes ahead, Khan will not get the chance he is so desperately hoping for. In an attempt to find out once and for all, he has offered Mayweather a deadline.
As he said recently:
“It’s a waiting game; I’ve given his team five days. I need to know this week because I need to start training.”
