UFC 217 is expected to have fireworks. Well. Maybe not.
Dana White tried to rebook a fight between MMA legend GSP and current middleweight champion Michael Bisping. Former Welterweight kingpin, GSP has delayed the fight twice.
But now, on UFC 217, we’re expecting to see them both fight on November 4rth, 2017 at the legendary Madison Square Garden, New York.
This has been done couple times, and frankly, many people aren’t buying it. We heard the news about a month or two ago as well, but GSP vs. Bisping was nowhere to be found.
Dana White also announced that the fight was off completely, somewhere around that time.
“To be honest, Dana said at the press conference last week that the Bisping-GSP ship had sailed.
He said the winner of Woodley vs. Maia gets GSP and I was like oh right, whatever, it would’ve been nice and a bigger payday and all that stuff, but I was just mentally drained with it all.
I stopped campaigning because every time Dana would just shut it down. So I drive home later on and Dana White calls.
There you go, the fight is on November 4, Madison Square Garden, Michael Bisping versus GSP.”
Like Bisping has said many times, that GSP is not willing himself to fight and Dana said that he brought GSP back for Bisping, Luke Rockhold also doesn’t buy the deal.
In his recent interview, he said
“It obviously doesn’t sit well. We will see what happens. Nothing is official until its official.
Who knows at this point. Georges has been out a long time, and I can only control what’s in front of me which is September 16, I am going to go do my job and put myself in line.”
GSP was missing from action since 2013, where he fought Johny Hendricks and Rockhold hasn’t fought in over a year. His last fight was back in UFC 116 last year in September.
He doesn’t think it will be Bisping vs. GSP.
“There will be a fight in November, but we just don’t know who.
You never know if it’s Georges. Who knows if Georges is going to make a fight?
At this stage of the game and all of the things he’s been through you can’t expect that he’s going to show up to that date, his body might fail, his mind might fail.
There are a lot of things in question with Georges.”
The question here is, whether he is right and if he is, Bisping is right to have the doubts on this fight.
Plus, we have yet to see what form GSP is in, or if he is in form at all.
