Saturday night turned euphoric for boxing fans as it lived up to its expectation of providing uncompromising action and some world-class series of fights. Amongst the noticeable bouts for the night were Carl Frampton vs. Luke Jackson in WBO’s interim featherweight category. Backed by an ardent English audience, the Irish boxer was able to dispatch a ninth-round defeat to the Tasmanian’s clean resume.

Saturday night was the Irish boxer’s 27th ring appearance and with the current win under his belt, the sensational boxer has amassed a total of 26 wins. His only loss comes at the hands of Leo Santa Cruz, an opponent which the Jackal had trounced upon earlier.
The bout was title defense against undefeated Australian Luke Jackson. With a “W” in all his 16 previous brawls, Saturday night’s affair marked a single KO loss in an otherwise impressive record.
The Jackal lived his dream by boxing at his home turf. An impressive Belfast crowd saw a too-eager Irish boxer tap on the opportunity to inflict damage to the away fighter and ultimately put a TKO stoppage to his winning streak.
A sellout attendance witnessed Frampton in his best form. He was a man with a solid plan that night, leaving no opportunity to steer his bottled up aggression into devastating blows against his opponent. Previously the boxer from land down under had engaged in some bickering on social media in the fight’s build-up. Now, it was time to even the score for the Irishman and he made sure that his actions were louder than his words. Though the Tasmanian didn’t give up on throwing punches, he was forced to take a towel, in the 9th since he had been pinned to the canvas by Frampton in the previous round. The undeterred blows from Frampton had started playing a toll on the Aussie boxer. With a well-thought strategy Frampton extended a defining shot putting an end to his challenger.
With the current win, the 31-year-old artist has bagged a spot for world title contention by competing against British Josh Warrington. There are also news regarding the Jackal’s encounter against reigning IBF champion Oscar Valdez. Whomever Frampton takes on next, one thing is clear: the 31-year-old seems to be nurturing under the headship of trainer Jamie Moore.
After the win, this is what the elated Irishman had to say to the media,
“This was unreal. The atmosphere was special, the crowd was fantastic and they made my dream come true. It was unbelievable from start to finish.”
The Jackal went on to add,
“We have a world champion in the ring here from Leeds. He’s a great fighter. Josh is a world champion and we are both promoted by Frank Warren, so the fight is on the horizon. I have respect for this man, but I would like to beat him.”
