With all the predictions and assumptions about who will Jon Jones fight next, we all forgot about his greatest rival; Daniel Cormier. In a recent statement Cormier said;

“Jon Jones and I will fight again”

It is clear that Daniel Cormier isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. His devastating loss to Jon Jones at UFC 214 is still heavy on his mind but the former UFC light heavyweight champion believes that he still has a lot of fight left in him.

Cormier Squashes retirement rumors

After his third round exit against Jon Jones, many pundits were predicting that ‘DC’ might retire from the sport. After all, he had trained hard and given it his all and still come up short against his nemesis. He looked overwhelmed in his post-fight interview.

But Cormier stopped the rumor mill in its track. He said that;

“I feel like my coaches, I felt like they had done such a tremendous job of preparing me for this particular event, and for me to not be able to get the job done, that’s where I think a lot of my sadness came from”

It is understandable that he couldn’t control himself after he had suffered yet another loss to his traditional rival.

Strong Competitor

Daniel Cormier is the ultimate competitor and he feels that he can still compete in the world of MMA at the highest level. He will continue to be a warrior until he doesn’t have the love for the competition.

This is what makes him believe that he will come back stronger than ever and would like another shot at Jon Jones. While Jones is still looking at possible opponents for his next fight, he may want to keep an eye on Cormier.

As for fans, they would love to see this storied rivalry continue and see a possible Jones vs. Cormier 3 happen. Cormier thinks that it would be in UFC’s best interest to make that fight happen;

“We make money together, and when you make money together, the UFC is usually pretty open to making those matches.”

In a rematch between these greats – does history repeat itself, or will we see a different outcome this time around?
