Ahead of their matchup at the Honda Center on Jul 29, Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier were at the UFC 214 presser. The two fighters have had an explosive rivalry for years and it was on full display at the event.
In this day and age when rivalries are manufactured to create entertainment value, it is nice to see two fighters that genuinely hate each other.
Heated Exchange
During the press conference on Wednesday, Jones took a shot at Cormier saying, “[he looks] like a crackhead with a suit on” for which Cormier had a fitting response,
“I may look like a crackhead in a suit but I’ve never been one. You have.”
That exchange clearly shows that both fighters have no respect for each other.
That has been the case since they first met in the octagon at UFC 182.
Genuine Hate
Jones beat Cormier in their previous matchup by a unanimous decision. The only loss of his career.
Jon Jones has never been beaten, so Cormier has something to prove on Saturday.
Some fans think that Dana White and other promoters at the UFC try to create drama between Jones and Cormier. But with exchanges like the one mentioned above, it is clear that the hate is not manufactured.
The Fight
Cormier has been on a hot streak since his defeat at the hands of Jon Jones. He has gone 4-0 since then.
Jones has been out of the UFC since April 2016, when he was banned for failing a drug test. He does look in fine shape and has gotten into the shape that made him one of the best fighters in UFC.
The excitement and anticipation for fans have increased as the rivalry has progressed.
And it will all come to a climax in Anaheim, California.
