Amidst waves of negativity towards the most dominant female UFC champ to have lived (so far), RDX Sports thought it was best to remind the world of Ronda Rousey’s phenomenal achievements. Mind you, it’s her birthday, and she JUST hit 30 – let that sink in for a moment.
Today in 1987, this world gave birth to one of MMA’s most renowned fighters, Ronda Jean Rousey (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC). She is one of MMA’s biggest starts and yes, this all didn’t happen overnight. She is ranked the number 4th female bantamweight fighter in the world according to the UFC. This year, Ronda turns 30. Three decades of awesomeness is a lot to take in, but since it’s her birthday, we have gathered her best moments for all her fans out there.
“Probably from 2002 to 2005 I cried every single night of training,”
Let’s have a look.
- When she wins against Cat Zingano in less than 15 seconds
It was a Saturday night in Los Angeles and Ronda fought Cat Zingano in UFC 184. Staples center was surprised to see that the undefeated Cat lost to Ronda in less than 15 seconds. How did she win? With an armbar, of course.
- When she rocked SNL
Ronda is drop dead gorgeous and we all agree, but she showed her humorous side to her fans when she was asked to host Saturday night live and damn, she was good. You can watch the clip here:
- When she was signed as the first female fighter by UFC
In November 2012, UFC announced that Ronda had become the first female fighter to sign with UFC. Dana White announced it himself.
- When she won without using armbar
In UFC 170, Ronda defended her title of UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship against the undefeated fighter, Sara MacMann on 22nd Feb, 2014. She knocked out Sara with a knee to the body after a minute into the first round. Of course, Ronda won.
- When ESPN named her one of the Impact 25
ESPN Women included her in the Impact 25 list for paving way for other female fighters to get more exposure and respect.
- When she made Expendables 3 even better
In Expendables 3, Ronda was co-starring in the summer flick, about to make a story behind the famous bar scene. She was nervous before the scene with Sylvester Stallone. Patrick goes to her and asked her what she does before a fight and she said that she does a sparring session in her room.
That conversation ended when Ronda hit Patrick in his ribs and broke one. Later, he said, ‘I got beaten up by an actress’
Watch the scene here:
- When she won the most post-fight bonuses
Ronda has won the most post-fight bonuses among active women’s UFC fight right next to Amanda Nunes. Ronda also has the longest title fight finish streak in UFC history.
- When she became part of the Fast and Furious Franchise
She starred in Fast 7 as Kara, Head of security for an Abu Dhabi Billionaire. And this was right before her UFC championship rematch against Miesha Tate. She recorded her scenes back to back as the dates were clashing with the shooting of Expendables 3.
Other than all these, she has countless amazing moments and we love her for all of them. Happy 30th Ronda!
