Manny Pacquiao’s win on Saturday against Adrien Broner proved the Fillipino is still one of the world’s greatest boxers.
With a unanimous points win in Las Vegas against Broner, Pacquiao was able to his WBA world welterweight title.
After the fight, Pacquiao issued some surprising remarks to Floyd Mayweather. Manny Pacquiao challenged Mayweather to come out of retirement for one more fight.
Pacquiao said,
“Get back to the ring and we will fight again if he wants.”
He further added,
“If he wants to come out of retirement, then announce it and challenge me. I’m a champion and I don’t pick any opponent.”
Manny Pacquiao continued,
“My message is I’m still active and if he goes back to the ring and wants to challenge me, I’m a champion.”
“I’m just waiting to see who will challenge me, who will challenge [for] my belt.”
Interestingly, Mayweather was also in attendance at the Las Vegas fight. Mayweather has not yet commented on the challenge.
Pacquiao and Mayweather previously fought in 2015, in a match billed as the fight of the century. At the time, Pacquiao was easily one of boxing’s most dominant figures. Similarly Mayweather had a reputation for being formidable inside the ring. In fact, Mayweather was – and still is – undefeated.
Mayweather won the bout and added the WBO welterweight title to his WBC and WBA titles. Following the loss, Pacquiao claimed he had been suffering from an injured shoulder that had impacted his performance.
Mayweather has since retired, only coming out of retirement to fight Conor McGregor in August, 2017 and then in 2018, for an exhibition match against kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa of Rizin Fighting Federation.
Mayweather won both bouts to maintain an undefeated record of 50-0.
Pacquiao had previously said that he would not have peace of mind without a rematch with Floyd Mayweather.
