Nick Diaz probably won’t return to the Octagon, despite Anderson Silva’s call-out to him for UFC 237.
After Silva’s (34-8 MMA, 17-5 UFC) unanimous decision loss to Israel Adesanya (16-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) at UFC 234, the former longtime UFC middleweight champion showed intent for his next fight to take place at May’s UFC 237 event, in Curitiba, Brazil.
“The Spider” is keen to take on Nick Diaz (26-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC), saying Diaz would be his top choice. Silva also claimed to be in contact with the former champ to make it happen. Silva told reporters post-fight at UFC 234;
“I think it’s a very interesting fight. I talked to Nick’s manager a couple months ago, and Nick said, ‘OK, let’s go do it. Let’s talk to Dana (White).’ I’m just waiting for Dana.”
On the other hand Nick Diaz didn’t indicate much about the possible bout. His old friend has also confirmed about his retirement this past week and there is nothing like Diaz coming back to the octagon.
In an Instagram story Diaz validated that he doesn’t intend to return to fighting and MMA is not exactly of his interest. Diaz said;
“(Expletive) all this – I don’t want to hurt nobody, I just want to party.”
Diaz hasn’t fought since his match with Silva at UFC 183 in January 2015. Both men failed a post-fight drug test that changed the outcome of the match to a no-contest. Diaz came close to fighting Jorge Masvidal at March’s UFC 235 event but that never happened.
The fight with Masvidal didn’t exist for long. UFC President Dana White later announced the fight would not take place. Furthermore, White said there’s nothing that makes him believe a Diaz fight will be reality in the future.
