UFC has announced two title fights for UFC 215. The event headliner will be the title bout between the UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and Ray Borg. Women’s Bantamweight title will also be up for grabs as Amanda Nunes will defend her championship against Valentina Shevchenko.
The Headliner
After the excitement of Jones-Cormier fight at UFC 214, fans can look forward to Johnson vs. Borg.
It will be a historic Sep 9 night in Alberta, Canada.
Demetrius Johnson is on the verge of making history. He has equaled Andersen Silva’s record of 10 championship defenses. On this night he will be defending his championship for the 11th time, a win could put Johnson in the history books.
No fighter in history has successfully defended a championship for the 11th time.
Johnson has been the UFC flyweight champion for about 5 years and his opponent Ray Borg will try to dethrone him.
Borg has said that he has the best chance to beat Johnson stating that, “He is not going to be faster than me, he is not going to be stronger than me”.
All the bluster and significance of the moment aside, this will be one exciting fight to watch.
The Reset
Amanda Nunes was all set to defend her title at UFC 213. The fight was set to be one of the best female MMA fights in recent history; that was until Nunes backed out at the last moment, citing medical reasons.
Much was made about Nunes pulling out of the fight, because she was ‘unable to breathe’ properly.
Now UFC has confirmed the fight for UFC 215 and we hope that we will finally see Nunes vs. Shevchenko for the bantamweight championship. Hopefully, the fight will be all it promises to be.
The confirmation of these fights on the UFC 215 card ensures that Sep 9 will be an unmissable night for every MMA fan.
