The war over the UK broadcasting rights for the May 2 fight is approaching its end. Until now, Sky Sports have been in front with their bid to win the rights for the “Fight of the Century”, but Frank Warren’s BoxNation is reportedly breathing down their necks for those rights.

After being given access to Mayweather’s training camp in Las Vegas, Sky Sports is thought to be in pole position to win the rights. Both companies were at the official red carpet launch of the May 2 fight at the MGM grand, but the stakes have only risen higher since then.

Warren held meetings with both Mayweather’s and Pacquiao’s promoters and has been airing previous bouts of both boxers on his channel BoxNation. His good relations with the American may see Sky Sports lose their head start in winning the bidding war.

It is understood that whoever wins the rights would have to throw in at least £12 million to finance the mega-fight. In order to offset that Sky Sports is considering raising their £20 pay-per-view cap for this contest especially.

BoxNation has reportedly prepared a contingency package as well that may see Warren’s company steal away the rights at the final moment.
