While Tito Ortiz may have captured fans’ attention after leveling his score with Chuck Liddell in their trilogy fight, the encounter failed to set an impressive pay-per-view record.

A tweet by Los Angeles Times Sports Reporter Lance Pugmire revealed that the event generated a meagre of 30,000.

“Industry source tells me the Liddell-Ortiz PPV buys may be as low as 30,000….but the Tiger-Phil golf might reach 1 million (all refunded, but a glimpse of what a low price can generate).”

The figure is quite disappointing as compared to an encouraging figure of 20,000 PPV buys the artists were expecting to amass.

To make matters more distressing, in a tweet by Yahoo Sports, the Golden Boy MMA promoted event gathered as low as 25,000 buys.

“LAT reporting #LiddellOrtiz3 PPV buys may be as low as 30k. Yahoo reporting they’ve heard 25k.”

Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz 3 came to a quick end when Tito executed a defining right hand to The Ice Man that landed him on the canvas. The Huntington Beach Bad Boy then went on to give his opponent some lethal grinding on the canvas before sealing a win in Inglewood last Saturday.

The victory against The Ice Man has improved his record to 4-1 for his past 5 fights.

Chuck Liddell hasn’t been able to prove his mettle on the canvas since his last win at UFC 79 against contender Wanderlei Silva.
