Ben Askren is never short of words for anyone and this time Nate Diaz gets in the line of fire.
Nate Diaz and Khabib Nurmagomedov have been saying a lot to each other in recent times over social media. Both have had bad blood for a long time, even getting into a brawl back in 2015. The trend continued when Diaz took a shot at the dedicated Sambo practitioner on Twitter.
Diaz commented on a picture of Nurmagomedov in the sauna with his boys. Although Nurmagomedov did not respond to the comment, Askren could not resist.
Ben Askren jumped into the conversation, accusing Diaz of participating in similar tub sessions in his native Stockton. Askren wrote in response to Diaz,
“Tell me the boys in Stockton haven’t done this a time or two after a hard training session.”
Nurmagomedov last fought in October when he won the main event of UFC 229 against Conor McGregor. His involvement in a frenzied brawl post-fight resulted in Nurmagomedov’s suspension for nine months.
Ben Askren made his UFC debut at UFC 235 earlier this month. Askren had a successful debut – he scored a controversial submission victory over Robbie Lawler. He will now fight the expected winner of Jorge Masvidal and Darren Till’s UFC London showdown next. There is a chance of his rematch against Lawler too.
Nate Diaz has not fought since August of 2016, when he lost to Conor McGregor on a contested decision. Diaz was briefly linked to a fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 230 in November. Unfortunately that fight could not materialize.
