A few days back Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor approached the Nevada Sports Athletic Commission (NSAC) to request a glove weight change for their fight. Both fighters wanted to wear 8-ounce gloves instead of the stipulated 10-ounce gloves. The NSAC has approved the request, so how will the glove change affect Mayweather vs. McGregor?

The Odds are turning for Mayweather vs. McGregor

As soon as NSAC gave the approval for 8-ounce boxing gloves for the Aug 26 bout in Las Vegas, the betting odds against McGregor went down significantly.

He is still considered the underdog against one of the most talented boxers of all time, Mayweather. But websites like Betfair say that they are receiving more bets on McGregor to win the boxing bout, after the decision from the NSAC.

The boasts from McGregor, that he will beat Mayweather in 2 rounds with 8-ounce gloves, are making his fans believe that he really does have the advantage in the fight now.

Will the tides turn against Mayweather?

‘Money’ wanted to make ‘Notorious’ more comfortable by agreeing to change the glove weight. He wanted Conor to have every advantage, and he may have given it to him.

Conor McGregor is used to fighting in lighter gloves. Floyd on the other hand fights with heavier gloves. Advantage Conor.

McGregor already has youth, stamina, height and weight advantage over Mayweather and here he has been gifted another thing that aids him.

High Stakes

Stakes in this fight couldn’t possibly be higher. It is expected to make upwards of $500 million and will be the richest fight in history.

Mayweather, if he wins, is expected to make somewhere around $350 million. So why would he put that kind of pay day at risk?

He has said on multiple occasions that he wants to make it up to boxing for the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, which lacked luster. He is trying to make the fight as entertaining as possible for the fans.

‘Money’ has also come out and said that this will definitely be his swansong. He is going to hang up his gloves for good. So maybe he is making his last fight as memorable as possible.

Retiring at 50-0, with a blazing victory over an MMA star would be something.

Whatever the reasoning, it will all come to a culmination on Aug 26, at the T Mobile Arena.
