For months there have been huge assumptions made about perhaps the most talked about fight ever, but it has finally drawn to a conclusion. The championship bout between the two top ranked boxers in the world, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao is now near completion. The final negotiations are still in progress and the fight deal is yet to be finalized at Floyd’s end, but all looks good to go on Pacquiao’s side, who recently told a Philippine media channel that the deal has been “hammered out”.
A finalized statement regarding the mega-fight between the world’s best boxers was expected to be announced on Super Bowl Sunday, but no announcements were made. This disappointed millions of people who have been patiently waiting to see both the fighters locking their eyes in the ring.
Pacquiao continues to put public pressure on Floyd to make the fight happen by stating that he has started the training and the bout with Mayweather will go ahead. He assured fans that the fight deal will be negotiated and all aspects of it will soon be publicized.
Last week, in a media appearance, Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum claimed that when the deal is finalized, Mayweather would be the one to announce the world. He added that the deal will be confirmed in the next few days and the much awaited matchup will become a reality.
Critics believe that the Mayweather-Pacquiao bout will set records for a PPV event and that the deal could exceed $200 million. It has also been under discussion that the bout will happen just before both pound-for-pound fighters are near their retirement date. According to sources, both top-rated fighters plan to retire at the end of 2015 and will fight two times this year.
Floyd Mayweather Sr, the father/trainer of WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr, is optimistic for this highly anticipated bout. He believes the monetary factory will make the fight go through and make it an electrifyingly, jaw-dropping event. He is quite confident that his son Mayweather Jr will defeat his Filipino opponent by making him fall to his knees to maintain his undefeated record.
Let’s hope for the best and see if we get this electrifying bout on May 2nd. What do you think about this highly-anticipated bout? Let us know your thoughts…
